We are pleased to announce that Highland Park Community Association is partnering with Pleasant Heights After School – an established, not-for-profit organization with significant experience in operating out-of-school childcare programs in northwest Calgary – to ensure continued before and after school care at Highland Park Community Hall for the 2026-2027 school year.
Pleasant Heights After School opened their first location in 1976. Since then, they have expanded to provide childcare to over 200 children in Kindergarten to Grade 6. For the 2026-2027 school year, Pleasant Heights will shift their program from Mt Pleasant to Highland Park Community Hall.
This partnership will provide continued out-of-school childcare services at Highland Park Community Hall for the upcoming school year, with service to families that attend St. Joseph's, King George and Collingwood schools. Out-of-school care will begin on August 31, 2026. Pleasant Heights After School is committed to maintaining affordable childcare fees, and they have open spots available for next school year. This community partnership will enable our Community Association to continue generating important rental revenue while we complete renovations of the Lower Main Hall. It also provides time for HPCA to prepare to launch our own out-of-school childcare program if we wish to, operated by the Community Association, in the future.
HPCA understands how important accessible childcare is to the community. We worked hard to provide rental space for before and after school care over the past ten years, and we are committed to future out-of-school childcare options that support the needs of families in the community. We know that uncertainty about future childcare is stressful for families. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to a new operator at our community hall this fall.

Please note that our hall also supports another program, the Highland Park Community Preschool, which is a community-based preschool operated internally by Highland Park Community Association. The preschool will continue to operate for the 2026-2027 school year, just as it does now.
