On May 31st, the Highland Park Community Hall buzzed with energy as more than 200 visitors joined us for our biannual Highland Park Community Market, a growing event dedicated to celebrating local talent, connection, and community spirit. Held indoors to accommodate Calgary’s unpredictable spring weather, the market featured more than 34 local vendors, an exciting Kids Fun Zone, a vibrant concession, and live music performances by the Calgary Guitar Club—plus appearance by the Crescent Heights High School mascot, Sam the Cowboy!
The market was a lively showcase of handmade goods, featuring crochet toys, 3D printed creations, sewn crafts, paintings, self-published books, pottery, birdhouses, fashion accessories, natural body products, suncatchers, and delicious baked goods. The quality and creativity on display created a warm, vibrant marketplace experience for everyone.
What makes this event truly special is its purpose. It began as more than just a market—it was a vision of community care, designed to uplift residents, empower future entrepreneurs, remove socio-economic barriers, and foster Indigenous inclusion through support for local artists. With every market, we aim to grow a space where people feel seen, celebrated, and supported.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to our generous sponsors: Highland Park Physiotherapy Clinic for sponsoring our ever-popular face painting station, and Tutor Doctor for making our kids craft zone possible. Your commitment to building stronger relationships within the community is deeply appreciated.
A big thank you to TJ’s Pizza, whose staff ensured everyone stayed fed with quality food and kind service, enhancing the welcoming atmosphere of the day.
The Team Behind the Market: Our Planning Committee
To our volunteer’s Tina, Lonie – their partners, Ellen, Julie, Anne and Amrit—your time, energy, and enthusiasm are the beating heart of this event. From early morning set-up to post-event cleanup, and everything in between—you made it all happen!
Since the event has grown over time, it needs volunteers to join the planning committee.
The sustainability of the market depends on five key roles:
Vendor Coordinator – Handles vendor communication, registration, table assignments, AHS applications, and food permits.
Market Promotion Lead – Oversees event publicity across the HPCA website, newsletter, social media, signage, and flags.
Concession & Music Coordinator – Procures food/beverages, liaises with food vendors, ensures AHS compliance, and manages live or streamed music.
Kids Activities Organizer – Plans crafts/games, decorates the kids zone, and recruits volunteers.
Set-Up & Clean-Up Lead – Organizes crews, outlines duties, and ensures smooth transitions before and after the market.
