Good Morning, Highland Park!
I hope you are enjoying this sunny morning. I am sitting in my front room, watching folks walk dogs, push buggies, and enjoy the outdoors. Even in this time of physical isolation, I am finding myself more connected to my neighbourhood.
Just an update from our board’s last meeting that you might find interesting. We have now secured the Board approval to move forward with a fairly significant refresh of the main floor at the community centre. You will start to see trucks and activities at the hall related to construction in the coming weeks. The hall is getting a new ceiling, new floors, new lights, and refreshed bathrooms, including stall dividers, new toilets, new sinks and counters, a new shed, a sign, and a swale for drainage.
Through provincial and municipal grants and the funds raised through the casino’s, we are about to execute approximately $400,000 of work on the hall. This is the result of about two years of hard work by volunteers, from writing grants to securing quotes, to interviewing general contractors. I cannot count the hours that were devoted to making this renovation happen, but I can assure you that our hall is going to be spiffy when we get through the construction, and I hope we will all be able to meet up again as a group to celebrate.
